Free Beach Yoga is just one example. What began three years ago as part of a broader wellness initiative has grown into a meaningful part of the island experience. Residents and visitors gather at the 25th Avenue beach access each Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. from May through October to move, stretch and reset in a setting that is naturally calming. The program is simple and wholesome. There are no fees and no barriers to participation. On July 25, runners and walkers will come out to enjoy the Isle of Palms for this annual race. Being out near the water before the heat and humidity kicks into high gear is a special summer experience. Pair that with a few hundred neighbors and it sounds like the perfect day for fitness in nature. The course starts behind The Windjammer and follows the shoreline during low tide. You can catch the breeze while you listen to the sound of the waves and take in the views. This event is inclusive and is for anyone no matter how long you’ve been running. You’ll see experienced competitors, but you’ll also see families, kids doing the Youth Fun Runs and people A calming background to reset and relax. COMMUNITY find value in the class, but so can someone stepping onto a mat for the first time. Everyone arrives from a different place and experiences it in their own way. The beach adds peace that no studio can replicate. The shifting sand challenges balance, the ocean provides a steady backdrop, the pace feels slower. For many participants, the class becomes more than exercise and provides a much-needed respite in the middle of a busy week. In a community known for its natural beauty, the Free Beach Yoga series serves as a reminder that wellness can be accessible, welcoming and as simple as showing up.
