he Isle of Palms was originally known as Hunting Island and later Long Island, before being renamed to its current namesake in 1899 by landowner J.S. Lawrence. Inspired by the island’s previous name and all of the rich history that comes with it, Long Island Cafe has been a beloved fixture since 1986. Its blue sign with white lettering, featuring a detailed shrimp, perfectly encapsulates the restaurant's local, well-established and community-focused essence. The cafe's unassuming exterior belies its exceptional customer service and food. Without the frills, the experience itself keeps loyal patrons returning year after year. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the hostess and seated promptly. butter sauce with spinach, blistered cherry tomatoes, breadcrumbs and parmesan. The freshness of the spinach and tomatoes balanced the richness, making it a surprisingly light dish. This was my favorite of the night. For dessert, we couldn't resist the creamy peanut butter pie, complete with Oreo cookie crust, peanut butter ganache and chocolate mousse icing, it was a sweet tooth's dream. Topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and chopped peanuts, it was the grand finale to our meal. The perfect combination of personable and attentive staff, to exquisite appetizers, entrees and dessert, the Long Island Cafe is not a restaurant you want to leave undiscovered. Bravo! Throughout the meal, every staff member, from food runners to bartenders and the manager, went above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. I began with the sesame-crusted tuna, served rare with soy and Sriracha citrus sauce. The fresh, flavorful tuna paired perfectly with the savory and slightly spicy sauce, making it an ideal summer appetizer. As a seafood enthusiast, I also chose the pan-fried flounder, sautéed in butter and finished with lemon. The fish's freshness and rich flavor were delightful. Daily, one of the chefs makes a new handmade pasta special using local seafood.
