There was a time when a dog’s main source of entertainment at the beach was chasing seagulls, but now they have a brand-new way to have fun. Thanks to the new Dog Stick Library on Isle of Palms, pups can enjoy endless games of fetch, all while letting the birds continue their beachside relaxation. The Dog Stick Library is inspired by the popular Little Free Library book exchange boxes, but instead of novels, you’ll find a variety of sticks in this little nook. Dogs are invited to sniff through the collection and pick their favorite to borrow for a game of fetch. If your dog happens to fall in love with a particular stick, don’t worry, you can simply replace it with another that might not have captured their heart as much. On the day we stopped by, my dog Russ was more than thrilled to see that someone had gone the extra mile. In addition to the usual collection of sticks, the library featured an assortment of tennis balls and even a bag of treats. It’s not every day that we find such thoughtful new additions to the island, but this is one IOP Dog Stick Library fetches canine customers By Allyah Harrar that both dogs and their owners can appreciate. It’s amazing what a little extra effort can do to add a whole new element of fun to our community. So how do you find this hidden gem? If you’re hanging around the IOP Marina, you’re already in the right neighborhood. From there, take a walk down the nearby residential streets, say hi to any fellow dog lovers and friendly neighbors that you pass along the way and keep your eyes peeled. If you're still stuck, you can try reaching out to the family who brought this idea to life by messaging @CapersAndDeweesIOP on Instagram. The Dog Stick Library is a small but thoughtful addition to the island, and it’s these kinds of creative projects that make Isle of Palms such a great place for dog lovers. It’s a fun, unique spot that celebrates the simple joy of play. As much as we already love our dogs and the island, this is a great new way to make every visit to the beach a little more special for you and your furry friend. Now, full disclosure: I can’t exactly work the dance floor, but if our brave firefighters can risk it all every day, then I’m more than ready to risk a few missteps on the dance floor in their honor. Dancing for a Cause (Even if I have Two Left Feet) This dance isn’t just about trying not to trip over my own feet; it’s a heartfelt tribute to the firefighters who confront lung hazards on the job. Every awkward twirl and clumsy step will be dedicated to them. They risk everything for our safety, and I hope my dance can bring some laughter, awareness and support to their daily battles. A Community Affair with Serious Heart Organized by the American Lung Association, this event is about more than just fancy footwork — it’s a call to action. The association works tirelessly to improve lung health and prevent lung disease through education, advocacy and research. I’m proud to be a part of this initiative, engaging my neighbors, friends and the wider community in supporting such an important cause. A Night to Remember (For All the Right and Wrong Reasons) The Charleston Oxygen Ball promises to be a night filled with inspiration, community spirit and yes, a few questionable dance moves from yours truly. I invite you to join me for an evening where we come together with a whole lot of heart, celebrating both our shared commitment to lung health and the brave firefighters who protect us. Come watch me attempt some dance moves and raise funds for the American Lung Association. Together, we can make a real difference, one awkward dance move at a time.
